Roger Day was born in Marlborough and grew up in the nearby village of Ramsbury. His father, grandfather and other family members served in the Home Guard and as a result he was well aware of its existence long before it was popularised by the BBC series ‘Dads Army’. A keen historian and author, he has published five books on the history of the British and American troops who served in the Kennet Valley during the Second World War. He lives in Hungerford, and was one of the three founding Trustees of the Kennet Valley at War Trust.
